This Level 1 Certification class will be held in Richmond Virginia on August 24/25, 2012, and is taught by Lora Hart, PMC Connection’s Artistic Advisor and Senior Instructor.

The Certification process is intensive and faced paced, designed for the student who is ready to step beyond the basics. Students will feel more comfortable with the scope of the class if they come prepared with at least 40 hours of recent metal clay experience.  Prior knowledge of such tasks as rolling clay to a consistent thickness, the ability to keep clay fresh while working, texturing and joining will allow the student to follow the instructors demonstrations with a clear understanding of what is expected.

Each of the four projects in this level combines two or more techniques in order to examine a student’s ability to use metal clay in numerous ways.  You’ll learn how to make hollow forms; carve greenware; create perfectly sized rings, correctly set faceted stones; draw with the syringe; weave metal clay sheet and much more.  Projects are evaluated according to the care taken with design; joining; attention to detail; finishing and the students thorough understanding of the material covered in discussions.  Completion of the program prepares the student for Level’s Two and Three – and allows them to go forth in their jewelry making careers with confidence.

The class fee includes the tool kit and all forms of metal clay. The lab fee is $25.00 and is payable to the instructor in class. This fee covers stones, handouts, facility rental and other expendables. Fee may change slightly up or down depending on the silver market.

A letter will be sent out about one week before the class with complete details of the venue and driving directions.
