Introduction to Fusing and Slumping

Saturday & Sunday March 1-2, 10-4 & 1-3

$160 includes all materials, supplies, and firings

Fusing is the heat bonding of glass elements such as sheets, frits, and stringers. Slumping is the shaping or bending of glass into or over a mold. In this two part session you will be introduced to both fusing and slumping through demonstrations and discussions about the forms of art glass, mold materials, kilns, and firing schedules.

We’ll begin quickly with exercises in glass cutting, including straight and curved cuts, as well as perfect circles. During hands-on work time, you’ll put your newfound skills to use designing, cutting, and composing the parts necessary to make two fused and slumped projects.

All tools and supplies are provided. Class size is limited to four students for plenty of individual instruction. This is an ideal class for someone who’s never worked with glass but also a great refresher class for those of you who’ve had some experience.

This is a fast-paced class but we’ll take a short lunch break so plan to bring a bag lunch. Light refreshments will be served. You’ll be working in Valerie’s studio in Santa Rosa. For comfort and safety, please dress in layers and wear closed toe shoes. Questions? Call Valerie at 707-539-4400 or email to Valerie@ValerieAdamsGlass.com Advanced registration is required.

VALERIE ADAMS has attended professional residencies at the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School and was invited to take the Dealer’s Forum class at Bullseye Glass.
